Understanding the role of Investment Managers

Richard Fullman talks about the dedicated Investment Management team and the importance of understanding your attitude to risk before investing.

Topic: Investing

From your first point of contact, right through to the end of your investment journey with us, you will have our dedicated Investment Management team looking after your money every step of the way. We caught up with Richard Fullman, head of the Investment Management team for Click & Invest, to find out what this means for you and your money.

The prime role of a Click & Invest Investment Manager is to select and then continuously manage your investment portfolio for you. Unlike other online investment companies, who let clients choose their own investment approach, at Click & Invest our team will apply our expertise and knowledge to select the most suitable investment strategy for you, and then actively manage your portfolio on your behalf.

We also won’t only buy investments that simply track the market. Instead, myself and the investment team will actively aim to beat it, and select investments that we believe are right for you and your investment goals.

Following a rigorous process

We all work closely with our in-house Research team who research the markets, investigate performance and help us identify what types of assets to invest in and in what proportion. During our regular ‘Asset Allocation’ meetings we spend time reviewing various economic, interest rate and currency forecasts and determine the outlook for the individual fixed income and equity markets both in the UK and overseas.

Our ‘Collective Investment Committee’ will then meet every month to review and select individual funds within each of the various investment markets. To ensure we aren’t being led by instinct or market sentiment, we make sure we stick to this regular review process. Investing is best done over the long-term, to ride out the peaks and troughs in the market, so lots of consideration is going on behind the scenes to ensure your money is always working as hard as possible.

The importance of understanding risk

Before you choose to invest with Click & Invest, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire that determines your attitude to risk and capacity for loss. The answers you give us will help us understand two important things. One, your attitude to risk or how confident you feel and two, how much money you could afford to lose without it having an impact on your financial circumstances. This helps us put together an investment strategy that is right for you, and the risk you are willing to, and can afford to take.

Thinking about risk before you invest is important because we don’t want you to have sleepless nights worrying about your money. We want to make investing as effortless for you as possible, so we’ve spent a long time thinking about how the risk tolerance questions are phrased and how they may be interpreted, so there is no confusion or ambiguity when you go through them. The questions will show you different scenarios in which you may find yourself when investing. We can then carefully analyse your answers to ensure we make the right investment recommendations.

However we understand that your investment goals or situation might change over time, so our specialist Investment Managers will continue to invest in the way that’s right for you, which is why we encourage you to always keep us informed of any changes in your personal circumstances.
